Lorenzo Viscomi | Artist, Educator

Hi! I am Lorenzo, and teaching is an important part of my professional practice. Mentoring and educating new generations has always been part of my life, first as an educator and later as a music teacher. I have been teaching guitar and music theory in Italy for several years, both through individual lessons and ensemble classes. I am now developing projects for schools where improvisation plays a central role. Before identifying myself as a musician or an artist, I identify myself as an improviser. For me, improvisation goes far beyond art and music: it is about creativity, adaptability, and learning how to navigate everyday life in today’s society. This is why I find it important to guide children through the experience of musical improvisation. I do this through visual inputs and animation films, encouraging them to listen, respond, experiment, and create. I recently developed Music Tales for Wings of Straw, a multidisciplinary performance for children created in collaboration with artist and animator Anna Maria Micheva. The project features improvised soundtracking for animated films, with children actively participating by creating the sound effects for the film. Besides the individual classes of guitar and music theory/ear training, I am currently developing an ensemble course where children and young students can learn to use music and their instruments as tools to express emotions in response to visual inputs.
