Welcome! For our English-language amateur production of The Picture of Dorian Gray, adapted from the novel of the same name by Oscar Wilde, we are looking for crew! Sometime in 1890s London, two young men meet at a party: up-and-coming artist Basil Hallward, and Dorian Gray, a capivating and beautiful youth. Quickly, the two develop a close personal relationship and Basil, infatuated with Dorian's beauty, paints a portrait of him. Lord Henry Wotton, friend to Basil, lures Dorian into his hedonistic worldviews. Afraid to lose his beauty, Dorian makes a wish for eternal youth. His wish is granted, but not without a price... Focusing on Basil Hallward as the main character of this stage adaptation, our version of The Picture of Dorian Gray tells a story of the beauty of sincerety and the vulnerability of love, a story about queerness, yearning, and the importance of being able to embrace the truth about oneself. Costumes: tasks include thrifting costumes, buying materials, and sewing clothes, like skirts, shirts, vests, pants. Needs to be handy with a sewing machine. We will also be working with some historic sewing techniques from the 1890s! Sets: tasks include detailed planning of stage backgrounds and furniture, material shopping, and assembling of the pieces. Experience with power tools and woodworking is a plus! Props: tasks include thrifting and occasionally making props that actors will handle on stage. Marketing: tasks include management of our website and instagram page, coming up with a promotion strategy for the play, and creating and posting content. Possibly this can also include offline marketing like printing and distributing posters. Generally, please also reach out if you are interested in helping out a little or with some, but not all of the tasks! We are all volunteers and every helping hand is appreciated. We ask you to pay a contribution of 25€ to participate in the project, though, to cover material and room costs. If you want to become part of our passionate, creative, wonderful crew or if you have more questions, please email: dorian.gray.theatre@gmail.com! Don't forget to mention your name, a short overview of your experiences and what tasks you might be interested in. Looking forward to hearing from you! Tabea (your producer)
